The project included the construction of a Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park and Scenic Overlook at the Sideling Hill Visitor Information and Interpretive Center.

Landscape architectural services included the design of the memorial park and scenic overlook. This park was designed to combine the memory of our veterans with the awe inspiring vistas, creating a contemplative character for reflecting on the sacrifices made by those who fought in the battle.

Plant material was carefully chosen considering the native species in the area, the wind swept micro-climate, the minimal level of maintenance and the high volume of seasonal tourists the site was expected to receive.

Responsibilities included coordinating with the client and local chapters of the Vietnam Veterans who were donating several of the site amenities. Services included:

• conceptual design
• design development
• preparation of construction documents
• project oversight during construction
